1.Oculus quest 2's hardwareIts design is similar to the original Oculus Quest, butreplacing the black, cloth-covered exterior with white-colored plastic and ablack face pad. The dual OLED displays of the first-generation Quest werereplaced by a singular, fast-switch LCD panel with a per-eye resolution of1832×1920, and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz (an increase from 1440×1600per-eye at 72 Hz). The display uses striped subpixels rather than a PenTilematrix; this arrangement improves image clarity by reducing the screen-dooreffect.At launch, the display's refresh rate was locked at 72 Hz via software,with 90 Hz mode as an experimental option limited to the home area only. Asoftware update in November 2020 enabled games to run in 90 Hz mode.In April2021, an update further added experimental support for 120 Hz mode in games.
The headset supports physical interpupillary distance(IPD) adjustment at 58 mm, 63 mm and 68 mm, adjusted by physically moving thelenses into each position.
2.Oculus quest 2's software
As with the original Quest, it runs an Android-basedoperating system, and requires a smartphone running the Oculus app in order toconduct first-time setup. Its software has been updated with additionalfeatures since its launch. While announcing the Quest 2, Facebook alsoannounced the upcoming release of the fitness tracker app Oculus Move. Anupdate in February 2021 added support for up to three additional accounts to belogged into a single Quest 2 headset, with the ability for accounts to sharepurchased software between them.System software version 28 in April 2021introduced experimental Air Link wireless streaming.
In July 2021, experimental APIs were added to thePassthrough feature to allow for augmented reality features.
